According to IGN, a recent Nintendo Dream interview with SE's Shinji Hashimoto, reveal that the future Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation has been planned well in advance. In the hopes of keeping gamers "sucked into the world for 10 years", Square Enix hopes to duplicate the staying power of Final Fantasy VII.
It seems that they're trying to intentionally make the same thing happen a second time. The question is, will FFXIII be able to live up to a game that literally set the standard for a generation of RPGs, or was FF7's success, even 10 years since it's release, a one-time fluke?

Motomu Toriyama of Square Enix has been quoted as saying that the FFXIII games will not be exclusive to PS3. However, there has been some confusion over the translation of the interview. It is uncertain at this time as to whether he is saying that the two titles confirmed for PS3 (XIII and Versus XIII) will be ported to other consoles, or that additional Fabula Nova Crystallis titles will be developed for platforms other than the PS3.
The latter seems more likely, given that XIII and Versus have been in development with the PS3 specifically in mind for some time now. Porting the titles would undoubtably cause delays in their release. On the other hand, Haeresis' platform has not yet been announced, and with the rumor that has been making the rounds on the web lately that the entire compilation will incorporate a total of six titles, it is logical that this plays into SE's "polymorphic content" strategy.
Agito XIII has already been long-confirmed for mobile. It would only make sense for them to release titles on other platforms, likely DS and/or PSP. XBox 360 is not an impossibility either, of course, especially given the semi-recent release of a FFXI port for the Microsoft system, and Wii is a good contender for an XIII title as well. Who knows... we may even see another movie a-la Advent Children out of this compilation.

On April 6, Square Enix filed for a trademark on the name "Dissidia" in North America
Could this be yet another title in the Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation (which would make it the fifth FFXIII title)? Or perhaps the unknown title of the next Kingdom Hearts game? Or is it another game altogether.
More importantly, when is Square Enix going to come out and make an official announcement about it?
According to FF-XIII.net, Dissidia is Latin for "To Dissagree".

According to a scan from UK magazine GamePro:
"In the story an exile from the floating kingdom of Cocoon, who has been banished to the lower world, finds herself caught up in a plot to take the sky domain down."
It is assumed that the character they are referring to is Lightning. It was previously known that Lightning is regarded as dangerous by the people of Cocoon and possibly being exiled. The information about the plot against the floating city, however, is new.
The article also states that the release date for both XIII and Versus XIII will be sometime in 2008, though there has been no official confirmation of this from Square Enix, and this early in development, release dates tend to change quite a bit anyway.

Square Enix recently opened up the mini-site for their coming-in-May Square Enix Party 2007. The SE game-exclusive show will feature, among other titles, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII.
Unfortunately, trailers will apparently be screened in a private mega-theatre... it it will likely be awhile before those of us outside of Japan get to see them. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that XIII will NOT be playable at the event.
